Updated: Dec 15, 2021

Wave goodbye to fake eyelashes and finding time for beauty appointments and say hello to Lumigan, eyelash growth treatment that works! For just £75, you can get long lashes and a treatment you can do from home.

Long thick lashes are synonymous with beauty. Even the ancient Egyptians darkened and treated lashes with oils as a symbol of beauty and to ward off evil spirits.

Today, lash enhancement treatments are commonplace with extensions, false lashes, lash tints and lifts being a reason for regular salon visits for many. Busy lifestyles and a search for effective treatments without commitment have led to a growth in the use of lash treatments at home.

What is the best treatment for eyelash growth?

Bimatoprost, sold under the brand name Lumigan (UK) or Latisse (US), is an eye drop medication used to treat high pressure inside the eye including glaucoma. It can also be prescribed off licence to increase the size and thickness of the eyelashes. Unlike many non-prescribed eyelash serums, Lumigan really works!

How does it work?

Lumigan is manufactured by Allergan the same pharmaceutical that makes Botox. It works by increasing the length of time the hair growth cycle and reducing the shedding rate which means more growth and lengthening of the eyelashes.

In America, the treatment underwent clinical trials to satisfy the American FDA. The studies found that after 16 weeks the average study participant lashes were:

  • 25% longer.

  • 106% thicker.

  • 18% darker.

Effects are usually apparent after 10 to 30 days of application. The maximum effect is at 16 weeks.

Side effects and risks

Side effects are generally low risk and temporary. The most common side effect is irritation at the site of application which occurred in less than 3% of people in the initial clinical trials.

Due to the non-inclusion of pregnant/lactating mothers in the clinical trials and therefore no clinical evidence, it is not suitable for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

How long will the bottle last?

With accurate daily application, most people find a single bottle will last 3 to 4 months at which point peak treatment effect can be maintained with alternate day application. Applicators will be included.

How should I maintain the results?

Following a 16 week daily application to achieve full results you can maintain by applying every other or every third day.

How much does it cost?

One bottle costs £75 with free P&P. This will usually last 3-4 months with daily precise application. All treatments are subject to consultation, assessment of suitability and consent.

For this treatment, I am able to offer consultations online for those who do not live locally, so you can get it, even if you don't live near the clinic. Applications methods and any queries will be discussed during consultation.
